Are you planning a performance upgrade to your valve-train? Are you considering a nice shiny set of roller rockers would be just the ticket? Which is BEST? Steel or Aluminum? This article should answer pretty much all the questions you could have. Roller Rockers - Steel or Aluminium

You get what you pay for. I chose steel. On e-bay aluminum rockers can be had for $250 but you wont get around the block with them. A good set of steel can set you back about $1200. Did final break in to-day. If i have time will change oil and filter to morrow and do final tuneup.

Not sure where you're buying your roller rockers BUT Summit Racing sells CompCams Ultra Pro-Magnum full roller (steel) rockers for $326.97. I would certainly consider these as premium rockers. I'm using them in my 454 rebuild and Roger is using them in his ZZ454.

Ahh, google mopar rockers. Chevy, Ford stuff is cheap. It all depends on how you build your engine. Alm heads, bore, stroke, etc. I can rev my engine at 7grand all day without problems. A half decent set for a 340 is around $700

More good reasons to go with Bowtie propulsion instead of Pentastar propulsion.

Aluminum rockers were installed in my ex Nova in 1985 when a complete motor rebuild was done.I drove it till 2015 with no issues.

Bill.....in many cases a "good" set of aluminum roller rockers will last a long long time, in a street engine. However, the lifespan would obviously depend on the type of driving (how much time the engine spends in the high RPM ranges), the valve spring pressure, the metallurgical makeup of the aluminum alloy.....etc etc. You'll often find very cheap used sets of roller rockers at swap meets......they're not worth risking. As Peter has said elsewhere in this post, you get what you pay for.

Excellent article never the less. I agree you get what you pay for. I have "Pro-form" rockers in the Strato, 27,000 miles, still seem to be doing OK...I can see the advantage of good steel or very high end aluminum like Comp or maybe Scorpion.
