Reaching out for some advise and general opinions about spark plugs. I installed these "NGK's" about 2 months ago. Pulled number 4 and number 3 as they are the easiest ones to get to in and out compared to all the others due to headers make it a long chore and process. Pictures show number 4 plug.
I think it's colour is pretty good, but do see some oil residue? or some carbon build up appears mild on one side of the plug tip. Cleaned off after easily with rag. Number 3 plug was nice golden brown, and just a wee bit of carbon.
Previous plugs used have been "Accel's shorties", Boshe plat plus 4's, and now trying these "NGK" high performance plugs with the really thin tip.
350 Chevy, mild build, 650 Edelbrock Thunder series Carb properly adjusted, running "8 HG silver springs" and in the box meter rods, never played with jet sizes. HEI 75 Series Mallory Dizzy, 8 mil "Taylor" wires. total timing 32 all in, initial 12, with 10 degrees or so on the vacuum advance can. Vacuum is healthy 19 to 20 HG, smooth needle readings when you snap the carb open, goes to about 4 to 5 HG and smooth needle back to 19 to 20 HG. When I rebuilt the engine, it had 74 000 miles on it, added new cam, double timing chain, Edelbrock intake, new lifters, rods, roller rockers, high end oil pump, new fuel pump / rod etc. I never did remove the heads to clean those parts up, engine was well maintained before and ran well. This all said, engine always starts, runs well, no pinging issues or funny noises, run 94 OCT, plus additives from time to time, OIL always Honey pure gold. (28,000 Miles on engine now)...
So by viewing this one plug, what do you all think? running too hot? too cold? too rich? not enough? maybe the old valve seals are showing wear now with little oil blow by? or is everything just fine?
Thoughts and opinions....
Thanks
