I resealed the BB and my buddy Steph rebuilt the 700R4 and we installed them in the wagon yesterday. Now for the long job of re- attaching all the wires for the EFI and the, and the, and the. Going to remove the 3:73 gear set and swap in a 3:42 from the dif I'm building for Kevin for his Regal which will have the 373 and posi.

Hmmmmm. Seems like a short gear to go with a 4 speed. The Tangerine terror has a 4:11 behind her 4 speed and she runs 2000 RPM at 65MPH I think.... I run a 3:42 behind my TH400 with a 29" tire and I run about 2500 RPM at 60MPH....We usually do about 65ish going to Syracuse and I run about 2700RPM on that trip

Sounds like your having fun Henry, the wagon should run well this summer:-)So are you going to come up racing with us this summer in Luskville. The Strato VS The Wagon would be interesting to see.
Bruty, flipping through my car mags this winter, I have found many "G-Machines" / Pro-Tour machines these days all going with 4 speeds or 6 speeds and middle range gears like a 3.42. They seem to like the gas savings and do long highway hauls. That said most of these suckers are pumping out 600 plus to 700 HP bored out and highly tuned up Big Blocks. Of course all these cars have easy $100K or over in them.

The RV cam makes most torque below 2500 so the gear will be OK. Yes the 3:73 does give a better launch but I think I will be happy with the new gear again,I did have a 3:42 in a few years ago and it was good, als0 had a 2:73 which pulled OK.
You never know Kel, however I will not be putting the posi back in SO???

Going to a 3.42 with an OD trans is going in the wrong direction. IMO your existing 3.73 would be the minimum rear gear ratio you should use. BTW didn't you already have issues when you had a short gear combined with the 5-Speed you had in the car previously? As a check you should look at this online tool and play around with some different ratios to see what impact they have on your RPM. The tool is quite accurate. Brutus and I have both used it multiple times to figure out the RPM impacts of several different combs (gear ratios, tire height, etc....) It's not all about the "launch" ability.....you have to consider the cruising efficiency of the combo as well and that cruising RPM in relation to your torque convertor stall speed.....
